February 2018

Are you having a difficult time coming up with ways to signal your Spread Offensive plays in? Do you want to know how to teach your quarterback the box count with multiple sets against multiple fronts in the Spread Offense? What should a quarterback do when he faces a loaded box? Who should you be reading in the RPO game when running different running schemes?

These are the questions I tackle in today’s Coaching Mailbag.

You’ll learn from this episode:

  • Who you should read in the Power Run RPO.
  • How to signal plays in.
  • Why you should limit your formations.
  • Why drawing up each scheme against multiple fronts helps you simplify your offense.
  • Who you should be reading in your RPO game.

Alabama Spread Offense and Defensive Clinic
Do you love learning from other football coaches who are smarter than you? I know I do. That’s why I got Coach Shea Monroe on today’s Podcast to talk about the Alabama Spread Clinic, the Inside and Outside Veer, the Smoke and Mirror Wing-T, and more.

If this interview tickled your brain then I would recommend attending the Alabama Spread and Defensive Clinic.

You’ll learn from this episode:

  • How to use formations to look complex to your opponent.
  • Why you should throw out one random formation to mess with next week’s opponent.
  • How deadly unbalanced formations are when paired with inside and outside veer.
  • Why Coach Monroe considers Power “God’s Run Play”.
  • Why the Fade/Out quick game is deadly against today’s Match Defenses.
  • Why you need to go to the Alabama Spread and Defensive Clinic.

Do you struggle with screens in your offense? Do you not know what screens to run for your screen game? Or do you have so many screens that you can’t practice your screen game in a week? Do you want to simplify your offense so you can mix and match your screen game with your quick game and drop back passes?

Then you are in luck. Because today I talk about the three screens you need to install in your offense.

If you are like me then you know how deadly a great offensive screen game is. It is a core belief in the Air Raid Offense. So why do we all struggle with it?

Because we install too many screens and do not rep them enough.

But I’m here to help you condense your playbook by telling you the best screens to run.

How to defend the Spread Offense

Are you a defensive coordinator that is struggling to defend the Spread Offense? Do you want to know what kind of defense gave Art Briles’ offense the most problems? Do you want to learn the mystical Palms coverage, but don’t know where to go to learn it?

Then do I have a great interview for you today’s episode of Talking Football with Coach McKie.

Why? Because today I talk with the amazing Coach Cody Alexander.

Who is Coach Alexander?

The author of the amazing Cautious Aggression: Defending Modern Football book and the blog Match Quarters.

Why did I bring him on? Because I realized I need to know more about the defensive side of things. Yes, I started my coaching career on the defensive side of things, but I didn’t really study it as well as I should.

So I decided to devote this off-season to learning everything I can about the defensive side of the ball. Especificly the dreaded Palms coverage made famous by Michigan State.

You’ll learn from this episode:

  • What defense gave Art Briles’ offense the most problems.
  • Everyday drills you need to run with your secondary in order to be successful in Match Quarters.
  • Who Coach Alexander breaks down in the off-season to get better.
  • How he uses his blog to get himself better in the off-season.
  • How he secretly loves trashy reality TV.
